When you thought you've seen all a funnel can be, let me change things up with a Seamless Magnetic Funnel.

Magnetic funnels have seams where the magnets are installed and coffee particles like to get trapped, making a mess. By moving the magnets away from the face that touches the basket, this will no longer be a problem. To accomplish this, custom high strength magnets were made to fit in an exterior groove of the funnel. A custom silicone band keeps them secure and evenly spaced. Other notable features and notices:

• These custom made magnets make it even stronger than my previous funnel - look at the photo showing it lifting the entire portafilter!
• You can easily pull some magnets out to lessen the overall strength. Some baskets (e.g. E&B Lab Superfine) are less magnetic and requires the full strength
• Neodymium magnets start to demagnetize at temps over 80ºC - so a fully warmed up portafilter can degrade the magnetic strength overtime on a funnel with exposed magnets. Since the custom magnets are shielded by the funnel, it acts as a heatsink to protect them
• Note: Baskets become magnetic from the stamping process and are stress relieved. Some baskets also stress relieve the lips - making them non-magnetic again. Smaller baskets are generally thinner and thus will be less magnetic
• Material and finish: Anodized aluminum or Stainless Steel
• Non-black versions are made in small quantities

The 54mm size are for smaller espresso machines like the Breville Bambino/Barista, Sage, etc - which use 54mm baskets.

The 55mm size are for ACS, La San Marco groups, etc. They call their machines 54mm but they use 55mm baskets.
