One complaint of the Step Down basket is the excess water, use of the spring or settling with soggy pucks. This reducer diffuser is machined from 316 stainless steel and simply screws on in seconds. It converts the 58mm group shower screen to a 49mm shower screen while conforming to Step Down baskets (58/49).

To put it plainly, the resulting group head makes a Step Down basket behave like a native 49mm basket. For example, a 58/49 20g Step Down basket effectively becomes an 18g* 49mm basket.

This new shower screen is the same one that goes into all my 49mm group head conversion kits, which is often praised for its much improved water dispersion.

*Actual volume capacity will vary with grind size, roast level, humidity, etc
